A: The North Metro Blazers is a board-run homeschool basketball program for boys and girls in middle school and high school.

Q: WHAT IS THE NORTH METRO BLAZERS MISSION?

A: The North Metro Blazers program exists to provide homeschool student athletes an opportunity to use their athletic abilities at the varsity, junior varstiy and middle school level.

At the Middle School and Junior Varsity, our basketball specific priorities are:

  1. Player development
  2. Play a competitive game

And at the Varsity level, as our players are more experienced, our priorities are:

  1. Play a competitive game
  2. Player development

Q: WHAT ARE THE SEASON DATES?

A: Seasons typically run from November through February with some Varsity/Junior Varsity practices/games stretching into March.

Q: DO THE TEAMS PLAY OUT OF TOWN GAMES?

A: This depends on the team level at which the athlete plays.

  • Middle School - As a general rule, we typically play teams local to the twin cities metro area. Depending on the season and the opportunities it brings, we may play a few games outside of the twin cities area (Rochester/Wilmar) as well as up to two games that would require an overnight stay, e.g. a trip to Iowa, and/or Wisconsin.
  • Junior Varsity - As a general rule, we try to keep the majority of the games local to the twin cities metro area. However, the Junior Varsity level is more competitive and requires more engagement with tournaments. Therefore, some travel is a possibility and depending on the season's opportunities we could have up to 4-5 tournaments that may require 1-6 overnight stays, depending on individual family preference of arrival and departure.
  • Varsity - As a general rule, we try to keep the majority of the games local to the twin cities metro area. However, like the Junior Varsity, Varsity is also more competitive and requires more engagement with tournaments. Therefore, some travel is a possibility and depending on the season's opportunities we could have up to 4-5 tournaments that may require 1-6 overnight stays, depending on individual family preference of arrival and departure.

The goal of the organization is to provide the ability for families to be home on Wednesday nights and Sundays, as much as possible.

There are a number of families who generously support one another with supervision, so it is encouraged to talk with others and work out a specific plan. It is NOT the responsibility of the coaches to make these arrangements!
